Hysteria – PROPAGANDA POSTER present among society as a response from a group of street artists on the present situation, with all the congestion, pollution, and politics is supposed to be a solution and a variety of other issues in this country.
The city was the center of urban civilization with social activities, with very diverse environmental background, from traders, bureaucrat, educators, labors and artists. Concerning our urban communities, is closely connected with the problems of the city where there is a local and international culture acculturation impact on their communities which include among others: Minimarket proliferation, increasing the highway in numbers along with transportions, public space and culture in metropolis (propaganda poster exhibition by RespectaStreetArtGallery and Hysteria)
The audience began to fret when until 08.00 PM exhibition has not open yet. It can be seen that some organizers back and forth in preparing sound system and some artwork that basically intended to be live process. Some foreigners photographing and other just sit back, gaze around the seconds before the exhibition opens.
“Finally, it’s opened” chirps spectators who had been waiting for 2 hours at GAK, Stonen 29 Sampangan Semarang. That night hundreds of posters from various cities and among them even from abroad filled art space of Hysteria. The whole posters fill both the left and right walls GAK. The posters were deliberately display base on their own wishes in the entire room of GAK. The evening also featured musicians from Kalimantan, Yogyakarta, Semarang and Italy.
The exhibition is held at the initiative of Respecta Jakarta which had previously been held similar exhibition in Jakarta. All posters also varied, from political criticism to personal babble that mounted in the streets.
The exhibition, which was held from June 1st-3rd 2010 include displays the posters fromPippin Frisbie Calder – Max Kaos- Charrisa – Tricky Trikstar, LY (Local Youth) -Love Hate Love And Geng Yorc-Oi Oi, Artco Squad – Caps -Arks – Isrol – Vito – Emge Pandeka – Bolsq – The Jago Merah (Stenzilla) – Kagunan Graphic – Atap Alis – Rharharha – Kuas N Roll – Atto – Welly Baskoro – Robo Wobo – Penjol – Mg.Priggotono – Acip (Propagraphic Movement) – Betha + Agam – Marijan – Jah Ipul (Sakitkuningcollectivo) – Popo – Ashtwo – Adhi (Kampung Segart) – Public Iinv(est)ation – Hysteria – and Karamba Art Movement. While the musicians who performed at night are the ultra elektronis (Kalimantan), tawazun, terror of noise (Yogyakarta), Chipcracker, Ready to Go (Semarang) and Simoklownz (Italy). Small room in GAK was transformed into a tiny dance-as-you-like place with interesting lighting.
Unfortunately diksusi event which was originally held the next day to elaborate on the idea of the exhibition was finally eliminated because of technical constraints. Nevertheless posters have been at least a witness to the anxiety of youth in response to socioculture and political phenomenon, especially in urban areas.
